Weather radar offers the possibility to establish high resolution precipitation fields using the backscatter of the weather targets illuminated by the electromagnetic waves.
The project utilizes reflectivity data from weather radars located at Rømø, Sindal, and Virring, where composite images are generated over the Skjern catchment.
New algorithms are being developed for Quantitative Precipitation Estimation while considering the local bias and distance dependent bias in comparison to the ground based rain gauge observations.
Multi-annual datasets of radar based precipitation are prepared and verified by using integrated hydrological models at Skjern catchment.
